1. Why This Site Exists
There are so many poor directories on the web that are out of date, incorrect or contain bland information, so as a Cwmbran resident I became fed up with the quality of information available. I wanted to know: what time that shop closed, which taxi company has an eight-seat vehicle, what can I eat for lunch, where is that menu for the Chinese I use, I need some ideas for gifts, what's the closest place to get a lottery ticket...? Simple questions, but the internet was not answering any of them. So - I aim to solve this.
2. Contents of this site
The goal is a comprehensive list of businesses and services for the consumer (although trade services are listed), along with health and leisure, history and community entries. I may never finish! It is especially oriented towards those businesses that are too small to have a web site of their own, or believe there is little to gain from web presence. As all entries are free, it allows companies and traders to experiment with web-based information to see how it benefits their business.
3. FAQs
	Why are there so few entries at the moment? We have only just started this web site (October 2007) but aim to make it a complete list of businesses, services, tourist and community entries throughout the Cwmbran area. We visit and talk to each entry to ensure the information is as accurate as possible - this takes some time, but you benefit from the quality of the information. There are so many dull directory sites on the web that only give you an address and telephone number - Cwmbraninfo.co.uk is not one of these. Is this just for small businesses? No. Whilst we concentrate on giving smaller business useful web presence, large (or chains or franchise) businesses also get a mention so that the viewer can see as much information as possible. For instance: a list of petrol stations is useful, but each one is served well by their own company web site. Therefore, entries for larger organizations will only show basic details as their own web site will give in-depth information. How is it funded? Privately. The site makes no charge for entries or photographs or logo processing. It is not the goal of this site to make money from the listed businesses. How accurate is the information? All information is gathered from the establishment owner, manager or web site. Each page is given a date stamp so that you can see when the entry was last updated. Usually entries are updated every six months. So is this really free marketing? Absolutely! Why is some information show as "Cwmbran Info Lite"? These are establishments that have either declined the opportunity to have a full detailed listing, or we are just talking to them, or not got around to visiting them yet. They are included so that you have a useful list of all establishments. To be in this section the address and telephone number has been confirmed. When I search the web for Cwmbran information, your site does not appear, why not? It takes time for a web site to gain "high ranking" on search engine lists. We will appear more and more near the first page of searches as the site grows, as more people use it and as other sites link to it. As this site is being updated daily, there may also be a lag as the search engines catch up with their indexing. The design of your site is rather plain, why? We like easily accessed sites. A straight hierarchical access to the information you want, a simple bold design without any confusing intros, banners and unselected pop-ups. It is designed to be easily accessed by sight-impaired viewers. It is also designed to be easily accessed by the new generation of portable web browsing devices (such as the PSP^(TM) , i-phone^(TM) and other MIDs) without resorting to the sparse basics of a WAP site. Some images have blurred areas, why? When recording Cwmbran scenes it may be necessary to take photographs when members of the public are about (such as car boot sales or fetes). It is not the policy of this web site to have unauthorized images of people for world-wide viewing. Hence we blur out people's faces and recognizable characteristics to ensure their privacy. One time that this policy is excepted is for vintage postcards (which are generally available to the public). Also, in a very few cases, proprietors of listed organisations wish to have themselves in the entry photograph. 4. Who runs this site?

Emil Dudek, a Cwmbran resident for the last 25 years who always thought that Cwmbran was the best kept secret in the country!
